Family Holidays to Spain

Many families look to their first holiday abroad with children with certain trepidation, and with good reason. Long flights, tired children, strange food, airport queues and hot sunshine can easily speall disaster.

With careful choice of destination and a little planning there is no reason why a family with young children cannot enjoy a holiday in the sun.

Salou is a resort in the Costa Dorada (Golden Coast) region of Spain. A resort that fits especially well with families and children of ALL ages.

With a short flight time from the UK to (Reus Airport) Salou of about one and a half hours, and a transfer time to the resort of about 15 minutes by taxi, this cuts down the amount of travelling time usually assocaited with holidays abroad and makes a good way of testing the water.

Once in the resort itself, you will be presented with glorious sandy beaches that are cleaned daily and shelving gently into the Mediterranean sea making safe, fun bathing. All along the beach itself are many facilities for refreshments with the usual ice-creams, drinks and snack food.

Also along the beach are many play areas, slides, swings, climbing frames which the children seem to make good use of.

The palm tree lined promenade has a very wide walkway shielded from the main roads making it very easy to get around the resort.

Salou has the usual mix of cafes and restaraunts and bar serving every type of food and most the usual English food and good childrens menus.

A visit to Salou is not complete without a trip to the PortAventura theme park which is a few minutes bus / taxi ride from the resort. PortAventura is for everyone not just the kids!, the theme park has rides and shows of all types, from white knuckle roller coasters to gentle scenic railways. CLICK HERE FOR DISCOUNT TICKETS

Public transport around the resort runs between Salou, Cambrils and La Pineda every few minutes and cost just a few euro's.

For a break from Salou, hop of the bus (or take a boat trip) to Cambrils, a more relaxing fishing port a few miles along the coast from Salou and with a much gentler pace. Cambrils has a lovely marina and some of the best restaraunts around, especially for sea food. There is also a nice park with play areas for different aged children.
